100 Placentas
A community art project honouring birth stories in Sarnia–Lambton.
Reproductive justice includes the right for us all to honour our bodies and our stories, and to parent our children in safe and supported communities.
Javi Aviles-Saez, doula and community organizer, is creating 100 art prints from 100 placentas as a community art project born to honour the birth stories of Sarnia-Lambton families.
The placenta nourishes and sustains life during pregnancy, and after birth, it is almost always discarded.
The 100 Placentas Project invites families to see the placenta as a record of their birth, rather than as medical waste. Once complete, the collection of prints will be shared with the community.
The 100 Placentas Project will create a visual archive of birth in Sarnia-Lambton.
Birth stories matter. This project is one way we are preserving and honouring them.
